Kenneth Gilbert is special assistant in the Office of Research, Outreach and Economic Development, working with the Tennessee Digital Jobs Factory to provide training for industry certifications in data technologies. He is a certified Amazon Web Services Educator and a certified AWS Cloud Practitioner.

Professor Emeritus and former head of the Department of Business Analytics and Statistics, Gilbert teaches in Executive Education the Professional MBA, the Aerospace and Defense MBA and in Lean Maintenance Repair and Overhaul.

In his research, he develops analytic models of supply chains, which show why chain planning strategies based on MRP logic fail in matching supply and demand. These models can also be used to develop demand-driven strategies that work.

Gilbert has consulted with numerous organizations, has coauthored with M.M. Srinivasan and Melissa Bowers the book, Lean MRO: Changing the Way You do Business and has published in numerous journals, including Management Science, IIE Transactions and The Journal for the Association of Computing Machinery.

He holds a Ph.D. in management science from UT, a master’s in mathematics from the University of Tennessee, and a bachelor’s in mathematics from Berea College.
