Concentration Areas
In the spring of the first year, students will begin to choose a concentration area from one of five options. Concentration requirements typically include nine credit hours in a student’s last semester of the program and provide a deep-dive into a functional area of business.

MBA/MS Business Analytics

The MBA/MSBA brings the full power of mathematical, statistical and computer-based models to the world of business, developing graduates who can successfully bridge the sizable gap that currently exists between the practical aspects of business and the analytical capabilities enabled by information systems. The analytic skills taught encompass four overlapping areas: business intelligence, data mining, process optimization and applied statistics.
Curriculum 63 credit hours
Students must begin by pursuing the MSBA classes their first year with MBA courses their second. In lieu of a comprehensive examination or thesis, students demonstrate mastery of the material within the program capstone course, MGT SCI 534 (Business Analytics Experience).

MBA/MS Engineering

The MBA/MS in Engineering trains students to integrate an increasingly complex body of knowledge for rapid introduction of new products into the marketplace. It prepares graduates to take a leading management role in companies that must react quickly to a dynamic market where forces of competition require rapid changes via short cycles in design, manufacturing and product development.
Curriculum
60 credit hours
- 36 hours of coursework in the Haslam College of Business
- 24 hours of coursework in the College of Engineering
Engineering students can major in computer science, aerospace, biomedical, civil, chemical, computer, electrical, engineering science, environmental, industrial, materials science, mechanical and nuclear engineering, but should refer to each major for specific requirements.

JD/MBA
Coordinating College: College of Law
Time Saved: 1 semester
The JD-MBA accommodates students contemplating careers in public service, business management or law with a specialization in business.
The College of Law accepts up to nine MBA credit hours with a minimum B grade. The Haslam College of Business accepts up to 6 JD credits hours with a minimum C+ grade. Courses must be approved for dual credit by the Dual Program Committee and the student’s assigned advisor.
Students can begin with either the JD or MBA, but cannot pursue classes in both until completing the first year of each program. Students are classified as law students any semester they take a law class.

MBA/MS Agricultural Economics
Coordinating College: Herbert College of Agriculture
Time Saved: 1 semester
The MBA/MS in Agricultural Economics trains agribusiness personnel in business fundamentals with analytical, technical, management and economic decision-making skills. The program is directed toward management of agribusiness firms within the agricultural-consulting, bioenergy, food-processing, input-supply, marketing and transportation industries, among others.
Curriculum
60 credit hours:
- 30 hours for the MBA taken within the Haslam College of Business
- 30 hours for the MS
A written comprehensive exam on agricultural economics courses is required during the spring semester of the second year. An oral exam is also required for students who receive a marginal pass on the written exam.
