Admission Requirements

The Full-Time MBA application requires two references as well as transcripts, GMAT/GRE scores, TOEFL score (if applicable), a resume and responses to a set of essay questions. Official copies of all transcripts and test scores are required before an admissions decision can be rendered (GMAT ID: 8GR-KN-71, GRE ID: 1843) .

Top six traits we look for in our Full-Time MBA candidates:

1. Professional work experience (3+ years preferred)
2. Academic potential (GPA and GMAT or GRE)
3. Proven success working in teams
4. Cultural diversity or international work/travel experience
5. Demonstrated leadership
6. Effective communication skills

Recommended Coursework: Applicants who earned non-business undergraduate degrees are encouraged to take fundamental courses in one or all of the following: accounting, Excel, finance and statistics before entering the program.

Admission Test Options: Either the GMAT or GRE is required and scores are valid for five years. Active duty military and veterans should contact Tom Bates, Director of Admissions, tbates6@utk.edu to inquire about the possibility of a GMAT or GRE waiver. No exemption consideration is available for the MBA/MS in Engineering or the MBA/MS in Business Analytics programs.

English Language Proficiency: For applicants whose native language is not English, the MBA program requires a minimum score of 600 or 100 IBT for the TOEFL or 7.5 for the IELTS. Test scores are valid for two years.

Dual Degrees: Candidates must satisfy the curriculum and graduation requirements of both degrees and both colleges. Students withdrawing from one degree program before completion will not receive credit toward graduation in their other degree program, except as such courses qualify for credit without regard to the dual degree program.
