Technology Commercialization Concentration

Technology commercialization is the process of transitioning technologies from the research lab to the marketplace. This involves two parallel processes: development of the research technology into a demonstrable product concept (TechDev) and the discovery and development of a business model that delivers the technology to the market in products and services that solve customer problems at a price they are willing to pay (BizDev).

The technology commercialization concentration focuses on BizDev. The curriculum introduces the entrepreneurial process that moves from ideation into opportunity recognition and business model development, operations, finance and funding sources, and growth strategies. The course sequence is interdisciplinary and intended for individuals with technical expertise who want to understand how to commercialize their technology.

The concentration is a two-course sequence:

  • ENT 550 – Introduction to Technology Commercialization
  • ENT 570 – Advanced Technology Commercialization
