Michael Grojean is a professor of practice in leadership in the Haslam College of Business, where he teaches in Executive Education and the Executive MBA programs and serves as director of the Executive MBA in Strategic Leadership. He is also a fellow with the Global Supply Chain Institute. In addition, he works with organizational clients through Grojean Kirst Associates LLC, a leadership, strategy and talent consultancy.
Grojean previously served on the faculty at Rice University as a professor in the practice of management and executive director of executive education, delivering programs across executive and professional MBA offerings. Earlier in his career, he was on the faculty at Aston Business School in the United Kingdom, where he was associate professor of management, head of executive education, and associate dean for corporate activities and partnerships.
His experience includes 23 years of military service, culminating in his service as a member of the leadership faculty at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, as chief human resources officer for a 28,000-member organization, and as head of leadership policy for the U.S. Army. In that role, he led the development of leadership and leader development policy for the Army’s active and reserve force and authored the Army’s mentorship doctrine.
Grojean has advised national and international organizations undergoing significant change, including work with government, defense, health care and energy organizations. His interests and expertise focus on the intersection of organizational change, strategy and leadership. His research has appeared in leading academic journals, and he has contributed to international media outlets including The Guardian and BBC Radio. He holds professional memberships in several management, psychology and leadership associations.
