Mark Bradshaw, a professor of accounting at Boston College, will deliver a talk on the role of sell-side financial analysts in capital markets at the Haslam College of Business on Friday, March 2.
Bradshaw’s research examines what key accounting information from quarterly reports financial analysts use to value companies and make forecasts.
“Analysts play a role as consumers of accounting information, and what they value in that information moves stock prices,” Bradshaw says. “Social scientists can look at what information they receive, see how they revise their forecasts and valuations, assess why they performed their task effectively or not and understand how their behavior affects investors and stock prices.”
Bradshaw currently serves as an editor at The Accounting Review and associate editor at Journal of Accounting Research and Journal of Accounting & Economics —three of the premier accounting research journals —and is a noted presenter. He has been a faculty member at Harvard University and the University of Chicago, and won the American Accounting Association’s Competitive Manuscript Award for his doctoral dissertation.
“Mark is one of the leading researchers on analyst forecasts worldwide”, says Linda Myers, the Haslam Chair of Business and Distinguished Professor Accounting at Haslam. “He has served in leadership roles at all the major academic journals in accounting.”
Bradshaw comes to the college as part of the Haslam Distinguished Scholar Speaker Series, which Myers organizes. The series, which was launched in 2015, brings prominent scholars from various business disciplines to campus.
Bradshaw will speak on Friday, March 2 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Haslam Business Building, room 410. His presentation is open to all Haslam faculty, students and staff.
