Haslam College of Business - Economics Professor Named Michael Stahl PEMBA Faculty Fellow

Matt Harris, assistant professor of economics, was recently named the Michael Stahl Physician Executive MBA (PEMBA) Faculty Fellow. The appointment is for a two-year term.

Alumni of the PEMBA program established the fellowship to recognize a faculty member who teaches effectively and engages cooperatively with college partners and constituents. Harris’s research contributions and service to the college are recognized as well.

“We applaud Professor Harris’s thought leadership in the area of healthcare economics and his willingness to share his expertise with audiences such as our physician executive MBA students,” said Stephen L. Mangum, dean and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair of the Haslam College of Business. “We anticipate great things from him.”

Harris’ research is at a transition point between the modeling of consumer behavior and healthcare economics.

“I look forward to increasing engagement with the PEMBA program and learning more about the economic choices and challenges that healthcare providers face,” Harris said. “Not just the fellowship, but the increased interaction with PEMBA, represents an opportunity to continue and improve my research.”

Michael Stahl, after whom the fellowship is named, was founding director of PEMBA and continues to teach and serve as a recruiter for the program.

“I am honored by this fellowship, as it comes from our physician leader alumni,” Stahl said. “Their support means a great deal to me, as it shows that they benefitted from their time in PEMBA and continue to benefit as leaders in their field.”
