Giorgio Gotti (HCB, ’03, ’07) has been elected to the 2020-21 board of directors for the American Accounting Association. He will serve as the board’s director focusing on international.
Since 2011, Gotti has served on the faculty of the College of Business Administration at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he is currently an associate professor, holding the Dr. Gary J. Mann Family Distinguished Professorship in Accounting and chairing the Department of Accounting and Information Systems. In his position on the AAA board, he will represent the organization’s non-U.S. members and help to connect AAA with other accounting associations around the world. In addition, he will be responsible for organizing and chairing the annual Global Engagement Committee, which focuses on enhancing AAA’s ability to be worldwide thought leaders in accounting. Gotti earned a Master of Accountancy and his Ph.D. in accounting from Haslam.
Prior to his election to the board of directors, Gotti served AAA’s International Accounting Section (IAS) as its Ian Hague Award for Outstanding Service Committee Chair (2019-20) and president (2015-16) and was a member of the AAA New Faculty Consortium Committee (2015-18) and Global Engagement Committee (2016-17). He also is a member of AAA’s Accounting Programs Leadership Group (APLG) and Financial Accounting and Reporting Section (FARS).
“Giorgio has been one of the leaders in the international section for years now,” said Linda Myers, director of the accounting Ph.D. program at Haslam. “It’s great to see him taking on this role at the AAA.”
