Analytics Insight magazine named the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business as one of its “10 Most Prominent Analytics and Data Science Institutes” of 2019 in its July issue. Analytics Insight specifically credited Haslam’s Master of Science in Business Analytics program as immersing students in a one-of-a-kind, real-world capstone course experience that will enable the next generation of data scientists to lead forward-thinking organizations’ business analytics operations.

“This ranking speaks to our faculty’s commitment to preparing our students with the necessary technical and soft skills to seamlessly transition from the classroom to the business world,” says Michael Galbreth, head of the Business Analytics & Statistics department and Pilot Corporation Chair of Excellence. “Our students graduate fully capable of analyzing big data sets and communicating analytical results in nontechnical, business-specific terms.”

The publication cited the 10 organizations’ innovative pedagogies and rigorous curricula along with industry-relevant exposure, which will “train students in becoming tomorrow’s agile and skilled data professionals,” as the reason they deserved to be included in its annual grouping of the top analytics and data science institutes.

“The featured programs offer an interdisciplinary approach to analytics and data science, designed and taught by distinguished faculties bringing diverse expertise from some of the top companies and academic institutions in the world,” says Ashish Sukhadeve, founder and editor-in-chief of Analytics Insight. “We congratulate all 10 institutes for delivering excellence in big data and analytics education through cutting-edge analytics and data science programs.”

The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics seeks to create knowledge through research and to disseminate that knowledge through its degree programs. The faculty uses the results of its application-focused research to educate students on how to create positive change within organizations through the targeted and effective use of analytics.
