The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business climbed to 22nd among public business schools nationally in the latest Bloomberg Businessweek MBA program rankings. Haslam also moved up seven spots overall from 2019, coming in at No. 48 among all business schools nationally. (Bloomberg Businessweek did not publish a ranking in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.) Haslam also is ranked No. 36 in learning experience and No. 39 in networking.
“Placing in the top 25 in Bloomberg Businessweek’s rankings is especially meaningful, because their methodology focuses on the qualities we emphasize at the Haslam College of Business, which prepare students to have an immediate impact in the business world when they graduate,” says Bruce Behn, associate dean for graduate and executive education at the college. “Experiential learning that is immediately applicable on the job, opportunities to connect with alumni and corporate partners, career management guidance – at Haslam, these are all part of the overall business college experience that prepares students to step into the workplace ready to contribute on day one.”
Second-year MBA student Chad Easterly echoes Behn’s assessment of the program’s offerings.
“The UT MBA program has set me up for success by connecting me with my target companies and giving me practical learning that is applicable in the ‘real world,’” Easterly says. “The faculty and staff have taken a personal interest in my career and have been there to assist with whatever questions that I may have.”
To determine its rankings, Businessweek surveyed nearly 20,000 MBA students, alumni and recruiters and interviewed business school deans, professors, administrators and analysts. The questions explored elements such as: school quality and depth and range of instruction; curriculum applicability to real-world business situations; emphasis placed on strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation; inspiration and support from instructors; and class size and collaboration. Employment and compensation data from schools and the survey and interview responses were then mapped to weighted learning indexes to arrive at the overall rankings.
