Students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business recently gained access to a cloud-based suite of human resource information software developed by the enterprise software company Infor, which donated the licenses to the college.
Debbie Mackey, distinguished lecturer and director of the master of science in management & human resources program, says the new software will help make students more competitive in the employment marketplace. Knowledge of such software can lead to career paths that include system implementation.
“The software contains multiple simulations, so students can log in from the employee side, as well as from the supervisor side,” Mackey says. “When I talk to them about benefits this semester, they’ll go through a simulation to make sure employees are signed up for healthcare plans. It just makes it so much more real for the students than a lecture alone would.”
Johnny Parham, director of global engagement at Infor, said the company trains university faculty through its Education Alliance Program as a component of providing free access to its technology.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Haslam to incorporate Infor CloudSuite HCM into multiple human resource management courses,” Parham said in a statement.
Abbie Kee, a senior management major completing a human resource management collateral, participated in the training Infor offered at the college. She believes employers will see her willingness and ability to learn Infor’s software as demonstrative of her capacity to learn technological platforms on the job.
“The training was condensed, fast and fun,” Kee says. “I learned most aspects of the program, and enjoyed how simple it was to pick up on.”
Infor’s donation to Haslam is part of the company’s Educational Alliance Program.
