James A. Haslam II, founder of Pilot Flying J, will deliver the commencement address for the Haslam College of Business’ undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 7. This is the first graduation address since the college was named in Haslam’s honor in November 2014.
Haslam earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business (then the College of Business Administration) in 1952, and during his undergraduate days was captain of the Vols football team under General Robert Neyland. He has since gone on to build Pilot Flying J, one of the largest privately owned companies in the United States.
Haslam has served on UT’s Board of Trustees and the Dean’s Advisory Council, chaired the Campaign for Tennessee, and received UT’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2014 the College of Business Administration was named for Haslam, following a generous donation from three generations of his family.
