Haslam College of Business - Haslam Students and Faculty Recognized at UT Chancellor’s Honors Banquet

Thirteen students and two faculty members were recently honored as part of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s 2018 Chancellor’s Honors Banquet. The banquet is held each spring to recognize students, faculty, staff and friends of the university for their extraordinary achievements.

The campus’s Ready for the World award, honoring those who enhance intercultural and international awareness, went to Lane Morris. Morris is the associate dean of undergraduate studies and student affairs and the Sara Ellen Skinner Professor of Management at Haslam. The award recognized his work forming the college’s international office over the last year.

Brian Stevens, a lecturer in business analytics and statistics, was one of four to receive an Alumni Outstanding Teacher award. Stevens believes that statistics should not be boring and engages his students with technology, including playing Mario Cart in their first class.

“Perhaps my teaching style is best summed up by a student who called it sneaky,” he said. “They did not even realize how much they had learned until it came time for the test.”

Mariah McClerkin was honored, with seven other UT students, as a recipient of the Extraordinary Campus Leadership and Service award. She is a member of the Black Cultural Programming Committee, serves as a pledge educator in Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, as an officer in the Morrill Hall Residents Association, and as a mentor in the Multicultural Mentoring Program.

Madison Grace Hamilton, Phillip Kenneth Newsom, Jenny Dan Ying Pan and Aaron Michael Woody received awards for Extraordinary Professional Promise.

Karsyn Chandler Anstine, Stephanie Ann Buss, Gregory Douglas Gilbert, Drew Patrick Kelley and Ariel Terry Kupritz were recognized for their Extraordinary Academic Achievement, and Buss, Kelley and Kupritz also received Outstanding Scholar Athlete honors alongside Meghan Wiggins and Luis Valero Zamoran. Parker Alexander Henry received Extraordinary Academic Achievement, Outstanding Scholar Athlete and Top College Scholar awards.
