Haslam Undergraduate Education Rated in Top 20 for Academic Experience

February 15, 2021

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business undergraduate program moved up to No. 26 among public U.S. universities in Poets&Quants’ 2021 rankings of top business schools. Among all institutions, Haslam came in at No. 64.

Additionally, the college reached the top 20 in the Academic Experience category among publics, coming in at No. 17. Based on surveys of 2018 alumni from the top 84 business schools, this section measures former students’ appraisals of their alma maters. As the publication writer explains, “Ask any college admissions counselor or administrator what’s the best way to find out if a school is right for you and they will all most likely give this tidbit of advice: talk to recent alums or current students.”

Lane Morris, associate dean of undergraduate studies and student affairs, said the rankings are an affirmation of the college’s robust focus on equipping students for the business world and students’ overall satisfaction with their preparation at Haslam.

“When our students enter professional life ready to take on business roles as soon as they graduate, that is a testament to the quality of education they receive,” Morris said. “The primary ranking is a reflection of our efforts to prepare our students for their new roles, while the academic experience ranking is an indication of our alumni’s appreciation of those efforts.”

The 2021 list, the fifth time Poets&Quants has ranked U.S. undergraduate business programs, draws on surveys of business school alumni. Besides taking into account alumni’s academic experience, the rankings also consider alumni employment outcomes and colleges’ admission standards, as well as data surveys completed by members of the academic institutions.
