KNOXVILLE— Gary Pratt, an entrepreneur and chief executive officer of an internationally recognized health care nonprofit, has received the Accomplished Alumni Award from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
The 1977 business administration graduate was honored during a UT visit to speak to new venture creation classes Thursday. Lee Patouillet, associate vice-chancellor for Alumni Affairs, presented the award to Pratt.
The Accomplished Alumni Award recognizes notable alumni for their success and distinction within their field. A variety of alumni have been featured through the program, including CEOs of major corporations, Olympians, authors, artists, musicians, U.S. ambassadors and civic leaders.
“It is always a special occasion to welcome our alumni back on campus and provide our students the opportunity to hear first-hand about their career experiences,” said Stephen L. Mangum, dean of the College of Business Administration and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair. “We are fortunate to have a number of successful alumni who are leaders in their respective industries. Gary has been a very successful entrepreneur who has launched a number of enduring and socially responsible enterprises, including his most recent initiative focused on improved healthcare practices.”
Pratt is CEO and Vice Chairman of the Surgical Review Corporation in Raleigh, N.C.
The company, which he founded, is an internationally recognized non-profit whose goal is to increase safety, efficacy and efficiency of surgical care worldwide. This is Pratt’s first non-profit but he previously started six other companies. Of the seven companies he has successfully launched, four have been sold.
Pratt has spent the majority of his career in the healthcare and information technology industries. He also served as a partner in the nation’s sixth largest accounting firm and as president of a division of Waste Management, a Fortune 500 company.
