The graduate and executive education (GEE) programs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business set a new enrollment record for the second consecutive year in fall 2024. With approximately 350 new students entering this year, a total of 1,050 students are enrolled in Haslam GEE programs this fall, up from 2023’s 888, representing a 15 percent increase.
This record number of GEE program participants includes 77 PhD students, 478 residential master’s students and 495 online master’s students. Further, for the first time since offering online programs, the number of Haslam students pursuing a master’s program online exceeds the number of residential students.
Delivering Academic Excellence Directly to Students’ Homes
Participation in Haslam’s slate of online master’s degree programs — Online MBA, M.S. in Cybersecurity and M.S. in Supply Chain Management Online — is a significant driver of the enrollment increase. The total enrollment of 495 online students is up from 312 in 2023, a 36 percent increase. Mary Goss, the college’s executive director of graduate business programs, highlighted the rise in online programs as proof of Haslam’s commitment to reaching students where they are.
“Beyond the value of an education from Haslam that the college is known for, the success of our online degree programs stems from their ease of access and worldwide availability,” Goss says. “We are bringing our classrooms to the students where they live, wherever they may call home.”
Regardless of program format, high-caliber students from a wide array of fields and backgrounds are drawn to Haslam’s highly ranked GEE programs, choosing Haslam because of its highly applicable and relevant curricula, leading faculty, corporate connections and state-of-the-art technology and facilities. This year’s graduate students include veterans, current military service members, professionals from other countries, small business owners and a member of the Lady Vols Basketball team.
Preparing Students for the Business World and Beyond
Amy Cathey, Haslam’s associate dean for GEE, says the new students not only bring an eclectic mix of professional and personal experience to their cohorts, but they also share a common goal of making positive contributions to their current and future organizations. Whether a student is a recent college graduate, someone looking to change careers, a manager, an executive, a physician or a pilot, Haslam faculty are committed to helping them achieve their goals.
“The growth in our enrollment is a result of the expanded program options and formats offered,” Cathey says. “This allows individuals to access graduate education at a variety of points in their career development and in a modality that works for them. We are delighted to welcome our new graduate students to Haslam this fall and honored that this group has selected Haslam to continue their studies.”
