Haslam College of Business - Scott Returns to Haslam as Director of Leadership Development Program

Nancy Scott has joined the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business as director of the leadership development program for graduate and executive education. In her new role, Scott will work closely with other program directors to expand assessment activities for the college’s students and corporate clients.

“My vision for our leadership development program is to support the continued growth of the degree and non-degree programs,” Scott says. “I hope to expand the programs and explore how technology might allow us to adapt the leadership development experience.”

Scott joins Haslam from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, where she taught organizational leadership, corporate social responsibility and organizational behavior in her role as assistant professor of business and management. She completed her doctorate at Haslam in industrial and organizational psychology in the Department of Management in 2015, where she worked with Cheryl Barksdale, a senior lecturer, to lead a 35-person team for the college’s managerial assessment centers.

Bruce Behn, associate dean for graduate and executive education, says Scott will oversee all leadership development program assessments for the Physician Executive MBA, the Aerospace & Defense MBA, the Executive MBA for Strategic Leadership and the Executive MBA for Healthcare Leadership. She and the college’s team of role players and assessors will challenge the executive students’ leadership skills and ensure dedicated coaches stay connected with students to help them maintain progress in leadership development.

“It’s great to have a Haslam alum back,” Behn says. “Nancy is an accomplished educator who was awarded the 2015 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching here at UT. She has produced a wealth of research on topics including subordinate humor, leader-subordinate relationships, social entrepreneurship and organizational hardiness.”

Scott is looking forward to continuing her career at Haslam.

“This role will allow me to focus on leadership and make an impact in the classroom and private sector,” Scott says. “It’s a great feeling to work with people that love what they do.”
