KNOXVILLE— Nastaran Simarasl, a management doctoral candidate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is one of three finalists in the prestigious Global Development Awards and Medals Competition.
The competition is sponsored by the Global Development Network, an international organization funded by the Japanese government. It was founded in 1999 to build research capability globally. The competition recognizes excellence in policy-oriented research, supports researchers in developing countries and funds innovative social development projects benefiting marginalized groups in the developing world.
Simarasl’s proposal explores factors that influence female entrepreneurship in developing economies. Her proposal was selected from 400 submissions representing researchers worldwide. The Global Development Network will fly Simarasl to Accra, Ghana, to participate in a June 2014 mini-conference and awards ceremony, which will be attended by more than 500 practitioners. There, she will compete for a medal and the top prize of $30,000 to fund her research.
