Sean Willems, Haslam Chair in Supply Chain Analytics, was recently named deputy editor of Interfaces, a flagship publication of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS). The peer-reviewed journal focuses on the theoretical and practical application of analytics in industry.
Willems will serve a renewable three-year term as deputy editor. He and the editor-in-chief, Michael Gorman of the University of Dayton, aim to expand readership, particularly among practitioners, and increase the journal’s impact on industry.
“Interfaces is already one of the best journals in the field of analytics,” said Willems. “We hope to help continue its success in documenting the broad application of analytics across multiple industries and expand our contributions to emerging topics like big data and machine learning.”
A special issue on big data will come out later this year. Interfaces publishes six issues a year, two of which showcase submissions for the prestigious Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Operations Research and the Management Sciences and the Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Research Practice. The journal has been in publication since 1972.
INFORMS is the world’s largest association of business analytics and operations research professionals, with more than 10,000 members.
