Enes Özel

Enes Özel is a lecturer in the Department of Business Analytics and Statistics at the University of Tennessee. Özel received his undergraduate and master’s degrees in mathematics from Koç University, Istanbul, and his doctorate in applied mathematics from the University of Southern California. During his doctoral work, Özel was awarded the Dennis Ray Estes Graduate Teaching Prize, in recognition of his work as a teaching assistant.

Özel’s scholarly interests lie in probability theory, statistics and their applications, as well as instruction of mathematics with a historical flavor. He is currently a part of an independent K-12 curriculum development project, pursuing novel ideas for a holistic mathematics education.

Following his doctorate, Özel was at the University of California, Los Angeles, as an assistant adjunct professor, playing an essential role in the newly reformed financial and actuarial mathematics major. In recognition of his contributions to the program and the teaching mission of the program, Özel was awarded the Liggett Instructor Award in 2021. At UT, Özel will be teaching introductory statistics alongside a wide variety of statistics classes.
