Frequently Asked Questions

The MSBAi (Master of Science in Business Analytics and AI) is a 10-month, STEM-designated program at Haslam College of Business. It combines foundational business analytics with dedicated AI coursework in generative AI, deep learning, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning. Students work on real capstone projects with corporate partners and graduate career-ready.

The MSBAi includes four AI-specific courses: BZAN 554 (Deep Learning for Business), BZAN 557 (Natural Language Processing and Graph Analytics), BZAN 558 (Deep Reinforcement Learning for Business), and BZAN 559 (Generative AI). The Generative AI course covers transformers, prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning, and agentic AI.

Yes. The MSBAi is STEM-designated and qualifies as an Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, allowing international students to work in the U.S. for up to three years after graduation before needing a work visa.

The MSBAi is a 10-month, full-time program across three semesters. The cohort begins each July.

In-state tuition is approximately $26,606 and out-of-state is approximately $54,371.

Graduates pursue careers as data scientists, AI/ML engineers, business analysts, analytics managers, data engineers, quantitative analysts, and AI consultants. The program's combination of technical AI skills and business communication produces analytics leaders who can bridge data insights and business strategy.

All undergraduate degrees are accepted, though strong quantitative aptitude is preferred. Requirements include a competitive GPA (3.64 average), GRE/GMAT scores (waivers considered with Haslam's Canvas Exam as an alternative), two letters of recommendation, and a 30-minute interview. International students must meet TOEFL (80+) or IELTS (6.5+) requirements.

The MSBAi stands out for its dedicated AI curriculum depth, including a Generative AI course covering agentic AI, RAG, and LLM fine-tuning, that few competitors offer at this level. Combined with STEM designation, 10-month format, competitive tuition, team-based learning, corporate capstone projects, and the SEC alumni network, it offers a distinctive value proposition.

Nearly 90% of graduates find employment within six months. The 10-month format minimizes time out of the workforce, and tuition as low as $26,606 (in-state) provides strong return compared to peer programs costing $56K–$120K. Graduates advance into high-demand AI and analytics leadership roles across industries.
