Scott Guernsey is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Tennessee. He received a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Oklahoma, and an M.B.A. in Finance, a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, and a B.A. with a double major in Economics and Communication from the University of New Mexico. Prior to joining the Haslam College of Business, Scott was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge and an Advisory Editor for the Review of Financial Studies.

Scott’s research interests focus on empirical corporate finance, with a particular emphasis on capital structure, corporate governance, innovation, law and finance, and mergers and acquisitions. His research papers have been on several high-quality conference programs including the Adam Smith Corporate Finance Workshop, the American Finance Association Annual Meeting, the NBER Law and Economics Meeting, and the North American SFS Cavalcade, and have won awards at other major conferences.
