Haslam College of Business to Host 2019 SEC MBA Case Competition

March 1, 2019

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business will host the seventh annual SEC MBA Case Competition April 4-6 in Knoxville. During the event, teams of MBA students from the Southeastern Conference will compete to provide the best solution to a real-world business problem during a timed event.

FedEx, the sponsor of this year’s competition, will present a business case to participants on Friday morning. Teams of four students from each university will then be given 24 hours to prepare their recommended solutions. On Saturday, they will present to a panel of FedEx and local executives during both a morning divisional and final afternoon round.

At last year’s event, the Haslam MBA team placed second overall in presenting marketing strategies to Louisiana-based restaurant chain Raising Cane’s Chicken.

“We are proud to support the skill-based learning and talent development of future business leaders throughout the SEC by hosting the case competition this year,” said Tara Mohrfeld, chair of this year’s event and director of student and academic services for Haslam’s graduate programs. “Although it is an intense two days of immersion into a real-time business problem faced by FedEx, it also presents an opportunity for students across the SEC to network and collaborate in an environment of friendly competition. We look forward to providing an exceptional experience for all of our SEC participants and are excited to welcome them in April.”

The winning team receives an award of $10,000; second place receives $6,000; third place receives $3000; fourth place receives $1,000; and individual division winners for best presenter and best Q&A are awarded $250 each.
