Haslam College of Business - More than 650 Haslam Students Celebrated during Graduate Education Week

Each year, nearly 8,500 graduate students earn degrees from graduate education programs in Tennessee. These programs generate a $1.1 billion-dollar economic impact in the state. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has recognized the importance of the state’s graduate and executive education programs by designating April 6-10 Graduate Education Week.

Following suit, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Haslam College of Business joins the campus in celebrating this week as Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, honoring Haslam’s 656 graduate students with giveaways and special events all week.

“The college is taking this week to extend our gratitude to our graduate and professional students who have chosen to advance their education and further their careers with us,” Bruce Behn, associate dean for graduate and executive education, said. “We anticipate these accomplished individuals will go on to greater heights and represent the college admirably in their future endeavors.”

Haslam faculty members enjoy the opportunity to work with the students. “I always enjoy teaching graduate and executive education classes,” Melissa Bowers, associate professor and Beaman Professor of Business, said. “The preparation, energy and level of engagement the students bring to the classroom is impressive. As a faculty member, I am also fortunate to learn from their insights and real-world experience.”

Students appreciate the educational value and other benefits they gain from Haslam’s graduate programs.

Chris Farris, who has just returned from active military duty, is earning his master’s in the Supply Chain Management Online program. As he continued his coursework while serving his country, he found the online program’s flexibility beneficial, saying what set the program apart for him was, “Learning at a consistent pace I set.”  

In addition to the events Haslam is holding during graduate education week, university-wide events are also being offered.
