Vol Court is an experiential learning program and pitch competition that walks student entrepreneurs through turning a unique business idea into a clear, confident and compelling pitch. Participants are encouraged to complete a series of on-demand modules and participate in live events that lead into the final pitch competition. Those who complete the required modules, submit the key learning objectives form and attend Reverse Shark Tank are eligible to pitch for a share of $3,000 in Roe Prize funding. UT students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the local community are welcome to attend the live events.
How It Works
Participants move through Vol Court in two parts:
Part 1: Complete the Learning Modules
Participants begin Vol Court by completing a short series of on-demand learning modules that cover idea generation, business planning and pitch preparation. After completing the modules, participants must complete and submit the key learning objectives form to participate in the Vol Court pitch competition.
Part 2: Attend the Live Events
Sign-Up and Feedback Day: September 2, 2026
Students interested in pitching should stop by the Student Union from anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to share a business idea and register. During this session, pitchers will receive feedback on their idea to gain an advantage on pitch day. Coming to this session will give businesses priority on pitch night.
Smokey’s Den: September 9, 2026
Smokey’s Den is a live, interactive reverse pitch competition where established local entrepreneurs share their elevator pitches. Students can engage with each pitch, discussing what worked and where there was room for improvement, before serving as the judges and voting for the strongest presentation. This event provides practical insight and inspiration student pitchers can apply as they shape and refine their own. Attendance is required to participate in the Vol Court pitch competition.
Pitch Den: September 16, 2026
Participants who complete all required learning modules, submit a completed key learning objectives form and attended Smokey’s Den are invited to deliver a 90-second pitch in a live competition for a chance to win a share of $3,000 in Roe Prize funding.
