Program Overview

The program prepares students for top-tier careers in assurance, taxes, financial transactions and advisory services in 10 months of study.

Haslam’s MAcc has a 100 percent placement rate and the top CPA pass rate among Tennessee public institutions. Students who attend the program network with leaders in the field through the Neel Corporate Governance Speaker Series, and many go on to work at one of the Big Four accounting firms. Enrolling in Haslam’s MAcc is a 10-month commitment starting each fall that launches a stellar accounting career.

The Neel Corporate Governance Center Speaker Series brings national experts to campus for lectures and networking. Past speakers include leaders of public accounting firms, audit committee members, Chief Financial Officers, PCAOB board members, SEC commissioners and institutional investors.

Macc Admissions

Requirements

The admission decision is based on all factors that make up the total application, with consideration given to factors such as:

  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Academic record
  • Scores on the GMAT (unless waived), and TOEFL/IELTS for non-native English speakers 
  • Internships and/or work experience

English Language Proficiency

For applicants whose native language is not English, the MAcc requires submission of a TOEFL or IELTS score. Please visit the University of Tennessee’s Graduate School Admission Requirements website for more information.

GMAT

Haslam undergraduate accounting majors are exempt from the GMAT requirement. This waiver also applies to students who take the prescribed accounting prerequisites above the principle level at Haslam. Please use school code 1843 to submit your official scores.

Prerequisite Coursework

Students with an accounting degree from an accredited baccalaureate degree program normally meet prerequisite requirements.

With prior approval from the MAcc director, students with strong undergraduate records in other academic areas/majors may qualify for admission by completing specified prerequisite course work in accounting, information management and business. Any prerequisites must be completed prior to starting the MAcc program.

Depending on background and desired concentration, required prerequisite courses may be in the following areas (or their equivalent): financial accounting, auditing, taxation, information systems and analytics. Please reach out to the MAcc director for details.

Additional courses may be required depending on the student’s academic background.
