Analytics & Visualization for Shop Floor Operations

Course Description

This course is designed specifically for leaders working in industrial operations to learn how to analyze and interpret data to determine where to apply problem solving techniques to resolve constraints, eliminate waste, create flow, and improve performance. This workshop will provide practical exercises designed to teach basic analytics and visualization skills. Hands-on exercises will provide experiential learning opportunities to visualize and interpret data to identify trends, bottlenecks, patterns, and outliers to visually transform data into operational insight. Participants will then learn to use visual shop floor tools to leverage this insight to address operational problems and drive process improvements.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • Introduction to analytics, basic chart types, and visualization
  • Visualization for understanding: What is the best chart type?
  • How to create a visual dashboard in Microsoft Excel
  • Why measure? What to measure? How, where, and when to visualize the metrics?
  • Visualization of the right metrics to eliminate waste and create flow on the shop floor
  • Keys to building visualizations and dashboards/production boards that drive value
