Beth Weissmueller moved back to Knoxville in 2021, seeking the ideal area to raise her family. She found a new home along with a new career.

“The Haslam College of Business is such a beacon—truly a home,” says Weissmueller.

In her role as the Department of Economics’ office manager, Weissmueller regularly provides creative solutions to meet its needs. She facilitates all aspects of internal and external communications and events and supports the day-to-day administrative, financial and operational functions of the department. This spring she was recognized for her efforts when she received the Haslam Staff Award for Innovation and Creativity.

“They read my name, and I almost had a heart attack from surprise,” recalls Weissmueller. “To be recognized for my work feels humbling but also amazing. Working in positive environment gives you positive motivation to do your best.”

Prior to joining Haslam, Weissmueller worked in Chicago and Nashville in office management, event planning, sales and accounting. She most recently worked for a management consulting corporation in Chicago and with the Nashville Predators Foundation.

She uses her expertise to manage the department’s needs. Earlier this year, she showcased her event planning and organizational talents while working with faculty to plan the Midwest International Trade & Theory Conference. She organized a seamless experience to welcome speakers and attendees to campus from around the nation.

“The conference gave me an opportunity to demonstrate what I can do,” Weissmueller says. “I’m fortunate to be in a place where I can grow and show my capabilities.”

Weissmueller says her new home in Haslam has provided her with caring co-workers and an environment where she feels supported.

“One of the most positive aspects of working in Haslam is feeling accepted and that your ideas are welcome at every level,” says Weissmueller. “That is so important.”

When not planning events and managing the needs of the department, Weissmueller enjoys planning detailed birthday parties for her two children and spending time with her family on Lake Loudon.

“I love it here. I feel beyond supported,” Weissmueller says. “To feel accepted and part of something is everything.”
