Bruce Behn, associate dean for Graduate and Executive Education and Deloitte Professor in Accounting, was recently appointed to the board of directors for the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
Representing more than 657,000 members worldwide, the AICPA board of directors manages the association’s property, business and activities, and establishes its business policies. Being named to it carries important responsibilities and is a significant honor, says Stephen L. Mangum, dean and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair at Haslam.
“This appointment is an affirmation of Bruce’s dedication to the accounting profession, which also is reflected in his tireless commitment to higher education in the accounting field at our college,” Mangum said. “The Haslam College of Business recognizes the prestige of being entrusted with leadership of the AICPA and congratulates Bruce on his appointment.”
The AICPA develops standards for audits of private companies and other services by CPAs; provides educational guidance materials to its members; develops and grades the Uniform CPA Examination; and monitors and enforces compliance with the profession’s technical and ethical standards. With broad reach, rigor and resources, the association advances the reputation, employability and quality of CPAs, CGMA designation holders and accounting and finance professionals globally.
Behn joined the college’s accounting and information management department in 1994 after completing his doctorate at Arizona State University. He is a past president and vice-president of the American Accounting Association, past president of the International Accounting Section and the Federation of Schools of Accountancy as well as past chair of the AICPA’s Pre-certification Education Executive Committee. Behn also has received numerous teaching awards, including the AAA’s Innovation in Accounting Education award, UT’s Alumni Outstanding Teaching award and the Tennessee Society of CPAs Outstanding Educator of the Year award.
