Marketing - Student

For junior Chloe Pigue, coming to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and majoring in marketing were easy decisions.

“I have always had an instinct that told me marketing was my niche,” Pigue says. “Marketing is also a broad umbrella that covers many aspects of business, and that has always heavily appealed to me.”

After choosing her major, Pigue was interested in joining a student organization with a focus on marketing. This led her to the American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter in the Haslam College of Business.

AMA offered opportunities to meet with other students interested in marketing careers and to learn from marketing alumni. Pigue quickly became an active member and was named president this year.

“Being a student leader has completely defined my undergraduate experience,” Pigue says. “Leading AMA has created a deep connection for me to the Haslam College of Business.”

This connection is something she wants other members to experience. Pigue has worked diligently this year to keep the group engaged and provide members with meaningful virtual opportunities. Using knowledge gained from her marketing classes, she worked to boost membership and promote events, making AMA one of the most engaged clubs in the college.

“The AMA leadership team and I strategize continuously to keep the students engaged in the virtual format,” Pigue says. “We are increasing our social media activity, streamlining processes and offering multiple engagement options for students to participate. Ultimately, I work with an incredible faculty advisor and leadership team that are committed to AMA’s success.”

So far this year, the club has hosted several meetings, with plans for a fall fundraiser. These events contribute to the college’s plethora of engagement possibilities, something Pigue feels strongly about.

“There are so many resources and opportunities that are exclusively offered to Haslam students,” she says. “Whether it is extracurriculars or a part-time job in the college, Haslam offers opportunities that suit everyone.”

Pigue said that joining AMA allowed her to find her niche within UT, something she found key to her success.

“Thanks to AMA, Haslam feels like home, and I cannot imagine my college experience without it,” she says.
