Rachel Ramsey (College of Nursing, ’05) is the founder of Nashville-based The Newborn Nurse, LLC. The company provides in-person and online newborn education, as well as day and night in-home newborn nurse care as families transition from the hospital to their homes.

With over 19 years of experience as a neonatal registered nurse and certified postpartum doula, as well as experience in Vanderbilt Hospital’s NICU, Ramsey’s passion for supporting families inspired her to establish a newborn- and parent-focused company. “I realized with new families, that they needed further help once they got home from the hospital,” shared Ramsey. This commitment to assisting families beyond their hospital stay ultimately motivated her to create The Newborn Nurse.

Expanding The Newborn Nurse

The Newborn Nurse has been in operation for seven years, and Ramsey has expanded the company to a staff of over 30 nurses who have helped hundreds of families in the Nashville area.

“Since I’ve started my business, I’ve noticed that our new moms seem to thrive and feel very supported in the postpartum period,” shared Ramsey, a proud University of Tennessee, Knoxville, alumna and recipient of the College of Nursing’s 50th Anniversary Nursing Award, as well as the UT 40 Under 40 Award.

As Ramsey continues her entrepreneurial journey, she takes pride in carrying on a family legacy, as both of her grandfathers were entrepreneurs. “It feels like I am carrying the torch on for my family,” she said. “I always thought I would be a nurse forever. It definitely has its challenges, but I am proud to be a business owner and an entrepreneur.”
