Brian Bergman

Assistant Professor

Brian Bergman is an assistant professor of management in the Haslam College of Business’ Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. He holds a Ph.D. in entrepreneurship from Indiana University, a Master in International Development (MID) from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.A. in diplomacy and foreign affairs from Miami University.

Through his international development background, Bergman has worked in a variety of organizational and cultural settings, from developing public health policies for U.N. affiliates in Switzerland, to supporting the creation of community-owned social ventures in rural Kenya, to designing social impact measurement courses alongside social entrepreneurs in Guatemala and Ecuador. As an academic, his research is broadly motivated in understanding how entrepreneurs and communities organize to solve systemic problems (poverty, climate change, etc.) and create positive social and economic change. This work with co-authors is featured in several premier academic journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. Prior to joining Haslam, Bergman taught numerous undergraduate courses in entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship at Tulane University, Indiana University and Miami University.
