Charles Noon is a clinical professor of Graduate & Executive Education in the Haslam College of Business and the former head of the department of Business Analytics & Statistics at the University of Tennessee (UT).  He is a founding member of and continues to teach in UT’s highly-ranked Physician Executive MBA program.  Noon also teaches in a number of executive education programs including UT’s longstanding Lean for Healthcare program, the Healthcare Leaders EMBA, and the Professional MBA.  His teaching interests include operational improvement, analytic modeling, and decision analysis and he is the recipient of numerous teaching awards.  Dr. Noon’s research interests include computer-based models for operational improvement and his published works have appeared in a diverse range of publications including Operations Research,InterfacesJournal of Healthcare ManagementTransportation ScienceEuropean Journal of Operational Research, and Networks & Spatial Economics.  He is co-author of The Definitive Guide to Emergency Department Operational Improvement (Productivity Press).

He holds a PhD in Industrial & Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and B.S. and M.Eng. degrees from the University of Louisville, also in Industrial Engineering.  His past professional experience includes first-line supervision at the Procter & Gamble Company, Director of Research at Jewelry Television, and large-scale modeling or teaching engagements with a number of organizations including the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Philips Consumer Electronics, Dell Computers, Tennessee Valley Authority, Sears, Martin-Marietta, and the Electric Power Research Institute.  He is a founding partner of X32 Healthcare whose mission is to provide education and consulting services to healthcare systems on process improvement, patient flow, capacity planning, and staff scheduling. To stay current, he periodically consults with healthcare systems and serves as a consultant to TeamHealth in the areas of education and analytics.
