Biography

Allen Ammerman is a teaching associate professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business. Previously, Ammerman served as assistant teaching professor and director of academic operations for the Master of Science in Finance program at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.

Ammerman’s mission is to motivate students to ask questions, evaluate claims and seek the truth. His goal is for students to develop skills that will enable them to protect their personal finances and create value for others. He is specifically interested in “brain-based” approaches to teaching, which emphasize findings from neuroscience oriented toward cognition and memory formation.

Ammerman has published and presented research on topics related to household finance and family economics. Prior to his academic career, he accumulated over 10 years of financial management experience, including service as a financial management officer in the United States Marine Corps.
