HCB Investments Professor and Associate Professor

Deborah Harrell joined the University of Tennessee in August 1990, and since then has been a finalist or recipient of numerous awards for excellence in teaching and research.  She has taught at all academic levels.  For several years she taught in the executive graduate program in Taiwan.  She currently serves as the Director of the Torch Funds, our student managed real money investment funds.

In 2008, Dr. Harrell was named the College of Business Administration Investment Professor.  She has published numerous articles that have appeared in journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Portfolio Management, Financial Analysts Journal, Review of Quantitative Finance and Account, Family Business Review, Journal of Empirical Legal Studies, and Journal of Business Ethics.  Her research has been cited by Ibbotson and Associates.

Deborah received her doctoral degree in finance from The University of Florida, Gainesville, and worked in the banking, legal, and utility industries for more than ten years prior to entering academia.  Her research interests include the areas of investments, corporate misconduct, and business ethics.
