Dr. Matthew N. Murray currently serves as a Senior Fellow at the Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs. He is the former director of the Howard H. Baker, Jr. Center for Public Policy, the forerunner to the Baker School. Dr. Murray has also served as associate director of UT’s Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research and Head of the Department of Economics, where he directed the program in Public Administration.

Dr. Murray has directed economic policy research in various roles at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for more than 30 years, including over 20 years engaged in economic forecasting for the state and TVA. His research generally explores the intersection between public policy and the private sector, including tax and spending policy and economic development. His current focus is primarily energy policy and economic development. He currently serves as policy advisor to the Tennessee State Energy Policy Council.
