Matthias Demmer is an adjunct professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Management, instructing students in methods for forensic accounting, data analytics and eDiscovery in the Master of Accountancy program.

Demmer is also a director in AlixPartners’ risk and technology practice, specializing in data analytics and artificial intelligence. He is internationally recognized as an expert in leading financial crime investigations, particularly involving high-profile cases with public interest and media coverage. With over 15 years of hands-on problem-solving experience, often for multinational corporations and large financial institutions, Demmer has developed expertise in deriving value from financial and operational data. He assists clients in defining data and AI strategies for their compliance functions and supports subsequent implementation work to ensure effective and efficient risk coverage.

Demmer earned his Ph.D. in financial market accounting from the Freie University of Berlin. He conducted research as a visiting researcher at the Kelley School of Business (Indiana University) and published his findings in internationally recognized journals, including the Review of Accounting Studies. He is a speaker and lecturer at international conferences and prestigious universities, and he holds the certified anti-money laundering specialist (CAMS) certification.
