Biography

Syed M. Kamal is a teaching associate professor and assistant department head in the Department of Finance at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business. He recently served as an associate professor of finance and assistant chair of the Department of Finance at the University of Central Oklahoma and previously taught at Austin College, where he received multiple awards for teaching, leadership and student engagement. 

Kamal’s teaching profile includes undergraduate and graduate courses in corporate finance and investments. His research interests include corporate governance, corporate finance, financial literacy and finance education. His work has appeared in the Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Stability and Finance Research Letters. 

Before entering academia, Kamal served on active duty in the U.S. Army and worked as a program coordinator at the University of Texas at Austin. His experience in teaching, research, academic administration, military service and program management informs his commitment to student success and collaborative leadership.
