The incoming students represent a continuing trend of increased enrollment for the college.

As the 2024-25 academic year begins at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, the university’s Haslam College of Business welcomes approximately 2,368 new undergraduates to its ranks. The incoming students represent a continuing trend of increased enrollment for the college: The number of newcomers is nearly double the 1,282 Haslam undergraduates who graduated in the spring and summer of 2024, and the college retained 93.2 percent of its first-year students from 2023.

Haslam’s exponential growth is in line with the university’s Campus Master Plan, which anticipates a total UT student population of approximately 46,000 (undergraduate, graduate and professional) by 2030. The plan includes a new 240,800-square-feet business building, which broke ground on August 21 and is tentatively scheduled for completion in 2027.

Lane Morris, Haslam’s associate dean of undergraduate studies and student affairs and Fisher Professor of Innovative Learning, expressed enthusiasm for the college’s enrollment growth. “We remain excited about delivering high-quality learning experiences that support the college’s mission of building business leaders equipped with knowledge, skills and abilities to positively impact the workforce needs of Tennessee and beyond,” he said. “The collective efforts of our faculty in delivering exceptional classroom learning experiences — combined with valuable co-curricular experiences — enable Haslam students to achieve the highest levels of educational outcomes and career progression opportunities. Haslam is a destination of choice for recruiting fantastic talent.”

Haslam’s New Students by the Numbers

The Haslam newcomers include 1,905 first-time, first-year students and 463 transfers. Some 50.4 percent of the first-year students hail from Tennessee. A total of 43 U.S. states, as well as nine other countries, are represented.

The new students boast an impressive academic and testing record, with an average high school GPA of 4.07, average ACT score of 27.6 and average SAT score of 1270.

Approximately 45.6 percent of students entering Haslam as either first-timers or transfers this fall have declared majors in finance or marketing. Supply chain management and management and entrepreneurship majors total about 25.5 percent of the new students, with the remainder majoring in business analytics and statistics, accounting, business exploratory, economics or human resource management.

Note: Numbers included in this article may slightly change through day 14 of the semester, when admissions figures are considered official by university representatives.
