Welcome transfer students!

We’re so pleased that you are interested in pursuing a degree in business at UT. Below, we outline the requirements for transferring into the Haslam College of Business.

Transfer Admission

Transfer students are admitted directly to Haslam at the point of admission to UT. Selection is competitive and based on a holistic review of academic achievement, extracurricular and leadership experiences, and commitment to pursuing a business discipline. Students admitted to Haslam must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and earn a C or better in tracking courses.

Internal and external transfer students will be categorized as business exploratory majors until they complete the requirements for admission. Admission to a specific major, such as accounting or supply chain management, is part of the college’s competitive process for transfer admission. If external transfer students are denied admission to the college, the student must contact Undergraduate Admissions to declare a new major for admission to UT.

Tracking Courses Include:

Transferring Credits

When transferring credits from another institution, to the University of Tennessee, some courses might transfer as LD or UD rather than direct equivalents to UT courses. Courses that transfer as LD or UD can be petitioned if the course content is applicable to a degree requirement.

  • LD stands for “lower division,” indicating a course did not transfer as an exact match to a UT course but counts for 100-200 level credits.
  • UD stands for “upper division,” indicating a course did not transfer as an exact match to a UT course but counts for 300-400 level credits.

Courses that transfer as LD or UD can be petitioned if their content fulfills a requirement. A student’s adviser will need a copy of the course syllabus to complete the petition, although there is no guarantee a course will be approved to fulfill a specific requirement.

The university’s transfer equivalency table explains how credits will transfer to UT. Visit the University Registrar to see how your credits will transfer. .

Internal UT Transfer Students

Current UT students who wish to change their major to business must go through the Haslam College of Business: Change of Major Process. Students should email our advising office at busad@utk.edu with their name and student ID number.

Eligible students with a 2.50 or higher cumulative GPA will be invited to complete the “Transitioning to Haslam: Change of Major Process” Canvas requirement. After successful completion of the Canvas course, students will be able to sign up for an academic advising workshop.

Advising workshops provide the opportunity for students to ask questions and gain insight into their remaining academic requirements for the Haslam College of Business in an individual and group setting. There will be multiple advising workshop sessions in each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). However, it is not guaranteed that students will be invited to a workshop before their registration eligibility date, so students are encouraged to attend their regularly scheduled advising appointment in their current college.

Not showing up for a registered information session or advising appointment will result in delayed advising for business classes.
