Haslam attracts some of the most engaged and ambitious students from across the country and the globe. We’re so excited to show you what our college, UT, and the business world has to offer. But first, let’s get a few things squared away so you can hit the ground running as soon as you set foot on campus.

Below you will find everything you need to do to be prepared for your first day of classes.
1 For the University
1. Take a tour
If you haven’t already, we highly recommend scheduling a tour of UT and of the Haslam College of Business. They’ll cover it in Orientation, but they cover so much. It can help to know you way a bit already.
2. Set up your email
Once you have your NetID, visit directory.utk.edu/setup to set up your password. With your NetID and password, you will be able to log into MyUTK and your UT email account, which is the official means of communication between UT and students.
3. Pay your enrollment deposit
Log in to my.utk.edu and confirm your enrollment by paying your $250 deposit by May 1. The deposit is nonrefundable and nontransferable, but it will be credited to your first semester costs. If you have scholarship or financial questions, visit One Stop Student Services .
4. Sign up for orientation
Paying your enrollment deposit fee allows you to sign up for orientation. You can sign up for virtual orientation advising as soon as March 1.
5. Sign up for housing
UT requires all first-year student to live on campus. After you enroll, you’ll receive an email notification that your housing contract is active, and you can complete and submit it.
6. Get a Parking Pass
First-year students are required to live on campus, and the T provides free transport around campus. But if you need a car, you need a parking pass 24/7/365. Visit Parking and Transportation to learn more.
2 For the Haslam College of Business
1. Take a tour
If you haven’t already, we highly recommend scheduling a tour of UT and of the Haslam College of Business. They’ll cover it in Orientation, but they cover so much. It can help to know you way a bit already.
2. Get your NetID and Student ID
Once you’ve signed up for orientation, you can schedule an appointment with a Haslam advisor, which is the last step you’ll need before you can register for classes. To prep for your appointment, you should complete:
- Any academic planning worksheets sent by email
- Review the online Undergraduate Catalog. Click “Majors A–Z” to view courses required for your degree.
- Review the AP/IB/Dual Credit guidelines if applicable, to see if you qualify for course credits.
3. Create a tentative semester schedule
Whew! That’s a lot of steps and a lot of information. But by this point, you should be able to sketch out your first semester schedule. You advisor will go over it with you at Vol 103 and make sure you’re on track to meet all your course requirements.
4. Get your laptop
Every assignment. Every class. Every communication runs through your required laptop at Haslam. Use this guide to make sure your laptop and software meets the college’s requirements.
