Being a Volunteer at Haslam means embracing the responsibility to lead and serve. Guided by the Volunteer Creed, “One that beareth a torch shadoweth oneself to give light to others,” our community is dedicated to leading with purpose and serving with passion.
Haslam’s core value of impact drives us to pursue excellence and foster creativity in addressing real-world challenges. Through programs like Haslam Serves, VOLbreaks and Haslam Volunteer Impact, students and faculty actively contribute to meaningful service that extends beyond the classroom.
The Haslam Volunteer Impact program honors the dedication of students, faculty and staff who contribute to their communities through volunteer service. Participants who complete 160 verified service hours during their time at UT receive the Haslam Volunteer Impact Medallion at a spring recognition program. To acknowledge ongoing commitment, Haslam Volunteer Impact also awards individuals for reaching milestones of 40, 80, 120, and 160 hours.
To participate, track your volunteer hours through ServeUTK, UT’s online hub for community engagement. No enrollment is needed; any volunteer work you track on ServeUTK will contribute towards Haslam Volunteer Impact.
Haslam Serves is a biweekly service initiative that brings together Haslam students, faculty and staff to engage with the Knoxville community. Initiative events offer meaningful opportunities to contribute to local causes, foster connections across the college and embody our commitment to impactful service.

UT’s VOLbreaks program empowers students to engage in meaningful service during academic breaks. Haslam, in partnership with the Jones Center for Leadership and Service, is pioneering a VOLbreaks trip that is centered on the intersection of business and community impact.
During fall break, Haslam students journey to a selected community, engage with local business leaders and alumni and work alongside community organizations to implement short-term projects addressing local challenges. This immersive experience offers students a unique opportunity to apply business principles to real-world challenges, fostering both personal growth and societal contribution.
