MSBAi students develop the technical skills to derive insight from large data sets using AI and advanced analytics, along with the business fundamentals and communication skills necessary to make an impact in their organizations.

Haslam’s MSBAi program combines top technical expertise in AI and analytics with practical experience, so graduates can help transform organizations with data-driven insights and AI applications from day one.

The curriculum includes dedicated coursework in generative AI, deep learning, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning alongside core skills in R, SQL and Python. Admissions

Applications for the MSBAi program are submitted through Haslam College of Business’s Application Portal.

Key Dates

Admission opens in August and applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the class is full.

International applicants must meet the Graduate School’s deadlines as follows:

  • October 15: Application submission key date
  • December 15: Recommended application completion date
  • February 15: Final application completion date for funding consideration
  • May 1: Final consideration date

International applicants must follow the Graduate School deadlines for summer start programs:

  • October 15: Application Submission Deadline
  • December 15:  Application Completion Deadline

Applications submitted by December 15 will receive priority consideration for merit-based scholarships and assistantships.

Requirements

Prerequisite Coursework

All undergraduate degrees are accepted, but the most successful students have a strong quantitative aptitude and have taken courses such as math, statistics, engineering, computer science and calculus. Due to the lock-step nature of our program, transfer credits are not accepted.

Interview

The program requires a brief (30 minute) interview and can accommodate both in-person and virtual interviews.

GPA

Applicants with undergraduate GPAs below 3.0 are not typically considered. The average GPA varies with each incoming class, but is 3.64 on average.

GRE/GMAT

GRE/GMAT tests are required, but waivers will be considered. All students are expected to demonstrate quantitative abilities either through undergraduate coursework or by completing a quantitative assessment test, such as the Canvas Exam or GRE/GMAT test. Haslam’s MSBAi program has designed a custom Canvas Exam, which costs $9. Students interested in the Canvas Exam should contact admissions director Alec Merkle for further information.

Letters of Recommendation

In the application, please enter the name and email address of your recommender. When you submit the application, they will receive an email with the recommendation to complete. The admissions committee prefers to see one academic (faculty) in a quantitative field and one professional (current/previous supervisor) recommendation.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants whose native language is not English must score at least 80 overall on the TOEFL IBT or 6.5 overall on the IELTS and submit official test scores. Test scores are valid for two years. Please refer to the Graduate School’s website for more details.
