Peer counselors have multiple responsibilities during Haslam’s various Summer Programs. Counselors serve as role models, lead social and cultural activities, assist with academic support and provide students with insights into UT culture. They also work with students during specific program activities, such as a market simulation game and end-of-program presentations.

Role Requirements

Summer Program peer counselors must live in a specified residence hall throughout the duration of their selected program. They must also accompany students to all program activities. Peer counselors will act as student mentors and leaders through the duration of each program.

Compensation

In addition to the room, board and meals peer counselors receive, they are also compensated for their commitment and time at the end of their respective program. BETS counselors will receive $500, while AIM, WEB and SCM counselors will receive $300.

Peer counselor applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Current UT Student
  • Good academic and social standing
  • Commitment to diversity
  • Leadership experience
