Haslam College Business Gala 2014KNOXVILLE—The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business recognized the accomplishments of two alumni and one corporation during its sixth annual Alumni Awards Gala on Nov. 14.

The college also honored alumnus James A. Haslam II, for whom the College of Business is named, and celebrated the culmination of its 100th anniversary. Earlier that day, a dedication was held to commemorate the naming of the former College of Business Administration.

About 450 alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the college attended the gala, which included a reception, silent auction, dinner and awards presentation. All expenses for the event were funded through private support.

Proceeds from the sponsorships and silent auction will benefit the College Fund, which allows college officials to allocate dollars toward areas of greatest need annually, including student and faculty support.

The award recipients:

Karen Bowling, a 1994 accounting graduate, received the 2014 Outstanding Young Alum Award, which recognizes accomplished alumni who have contributed greatly to their chosen profession and their alma mater. Bowling, an employee of Deloitte, is the UT-Deloitte liaison for student recruiting.

First Tennessee Bank, the largest state-based financial institution, was recognized as the 2014 Outstanding Corporate Partner for its continued generosity and commitment to UT students and the university community.

Tim Williams, a 1993 MBA graduate, was honored as the 2014 Entrepreneur of the Year. Williams is the chief executive officer and co-founder of 21st Mortgage, the largest financial company serving the manufactured housing industry.
