Advising
Professional advisors collaborate with Haslam students to develop and evaluate educational plans consistent with the students’ values and academic and career goals. Advisors assist students in navigating curriculum and degree requirements and connect students with campus resources and support systems.
Business Course Registration
Haslam students must complete their advising appointment each semester before they can register for classes. Students must be admitted into a business major (or have appropriate prerequisites if pursuing a business minor) to enroll in upper-level business classes. Due to the integrated nature of the business curriculum, prerequisites and co-requisites are strictly enforced.
Engage with Faculty
Each semester, faculty invite students with declared majors in their field to an open forum to learn about professional opportunities and get to know the faculty and their interests. Students should identify a faculty member in their major who shares common interests and communicate with them regularly.
Schedule an Advising Appointment
Haslam students are required to meet with an advisor every fall and spring semester prior to registration until they have accrued at 30 earned hours at UT. After that time, students are required to be advised at least once per year per the University’s Academic Advising Policy. Appointments are required, except during specified drop-in advising dates.
Haslam Advising Office
Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
except when the campus is closed.
Current Haslam Students
Current Haslam students will receive an email from your assigned academic advisor inviting you to schedule your advising appointment. This email will be sent each week until the advising appointment is scheduled and attended. Haslam students can also reach out to their advisor any time by email or visit during established drop-in advising periods.
Due to some technical issues within Vol Connect, academic advisors will not be scheduling advising appointments within Vol Connect this fall semester.
Current UT Students, Non-Business Majors
Current UT students who wish to change their major to business should email our advising office at busad@utk.edu with their name and student ID number. Eligible students (2.50 or higher cumulative GPA) will be invited to complete the “Transitioning to Haslam: Change of Major Process” course and advising workshop. Students are encouraged to attend their regularly scheduled advising appointment in their current college, as they may not be able to change their major prior to their assigned registration date.
New Student Advising
Incoming freshmen and transfer students will meet with an academic advisor who will guide you through course selection, academic planning, and university resources. You will be contacted by our advising team after you register for New Student Orientation. Together, we’ll navigate your academic options and tailor a plan that aligns with your goals and interests.
