December 16, 2024

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has inducted Thomas Goldsby of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Haslam College of Business, into its 2024 class of CSCMP Distinguished Fellows. This honorific society strives to recognize outstanding, sustained contributions to supply chain management scholarship and CSCMP. The distinction carries with it a lifetime membership in CSCMP.

Goldsby, the Dee and Jimmy Haslam Chair in Supply Chain and David P. Perrot Supply Chain Management Faculty Fellow, joins Ted Stank, the Harry J. and Vivienne R. Bruce Chair of Excellence, emeritus professor John Langley and the late Tom Mentzer as UT members of the CSCMP Distinguished Fellows. In the letter announcing Goldsby’s induction, the CSCMP Distinguished Fellows Committee described Goldsby as an exemplar of the qualities it intends to promote and thanked him for his contributions to CSCMP and scholarship in the field of supply chain management. The Distinguished Fellows will be recognized at the Academic Research Symposium and EDGE Conference in 2025.

Goldsby expressed his appreciation for the recognition, saying, “To be acknowledged as a CSCMP Distinguished Fellow for my work in the field is a great honor. I want to thank the CSCMP and my colleagues in the supply chain management department at UT, with whom I collaborate creatively, innovating every day on projects that advance scholarship in the supply chain discipline, contribute to strengthening the industry and enhancing policy.”

Outstanding Contributions in Academia and Industry

Goldsby is among the most respected and sought-after authorities on all matters of logistics and supply chain management. Even as he trains Haslam students to take their place in the industry as supply chain leaders, he also serves as co-executive director for the college’s Global Supply Chain Institute, working closely with business leaders on projects to address important issues in the industry. He has served as an investigator on multiple federally funded research projects, exceeding $4.5 million in grant proceeds. Further, he has published more than 100 articles in academic and professional journals and has authored six books on various aspects of logistics and supply chain management. He serves as a frequent speaker at educational conferences, executive education seminars and professional meetings around the world, having conducted executive programs on every continent, except Antarctica.

Recognizing a Supply Chain Thought Leader

John Bell, head of Haslam’s supply chain management department, Nancy and David McKinney Faculty Fellow and John H. “Red” Dove Professor of Supply Chain Management, called Goldsby’s induction into the CSCMP Distinguished Fellows a richly deserved honor.

“As a thought leader in supply chain management, Tom has advanced the academic discipline and helped raise UT’s profile in the field,” Bell said. “On the business side, he has helped dozens of companies improve the resiliency and responsiveness of their supply chains, and major media outlets regularly call on him to deliver expert insights on supply chain news stories. No one could be more deserving of this honor, and we are proud Tom is now acknowledged as a CSCMP Distinguished Fellow.”
