Sam Ransbotham, PhD

Boston College

Sam Ransbotham holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research interests include IT security, social media and the strategic use of IT.

In 2014, he was awarded an NSF CAREER Award for his analytics-based research in security. Ransbotham was also awarded one of eleven inaugural Google and WPP Marketing Awards to support research into how online media influences consumer behavior, attitudes and decision making.

Ransbotham’s recent research appeared in Marketing Science, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research and the INFORMS Journal on Computing. He was recently named the guest editor for MIT’s Sloan Management Review, Data and Analytics initiative.

Prior to earning his doctorate, Ransbotham was the founder and principal of a software company with a globally diverse client list. He teaches at the undergraduate, graduate and executive levels at Boston College, is a faculty advisor for the MBA Marketing and Information Analytics specialization, and is part of the Boston College Linux Cluster policy committee.
