Advising & Resources
Haslam students are required to meet with an advisor every fall and spring semester prior to registration. Appointments are required except during specified walk-in dates and normally offered on 30-minute individual intervals.
Professional advisers meet with students regarding all academic planning concerns, including course scheduling, curriculum requirements (business majors and business minor), application to major, study abroad and academic probation.
Once you are admitted to a major, academic advising is supplemented with career and professional advising from faculty members in your major. Once per term, the faculty will invite you to an open forum so that you can learn about professional opportunities and get to know faculty and their interests. You should identify faculty in your major with whom you share common interests and communicate with them regularly.
Schedule an Advising Appointment
We have started advising for the Spring 2021 term. You will receive an email from the Business Advising Office when it is time to schedule your advising appointment. This email will contain a link that allows you to schedule an appointment with your assigned Academic Advisor. Appointments are only opened one week at a time. You will continue to receive emails on Thursdays until you have scheduled your appointment.
If you are currently in a major outside of the Haslam College of Business and are interested in changing to a business major, please sign up for a “To Business” presentation and advising appointment. Visit our Prospective Students page for more information and available dates.
Business Course Registration
Due to the integrated nature of the business curriculum, prerequisites and co-requisites are strictly enforced. Students must be admitted into a business major (or have appropriate prerequisites if pursuing a business minor) in order to enroll in upper-level business classes.
After their semesterly advising appointment, students may register for business courses beginning on their scheduled registration date using the online registration system provided they have completed, or are currently enrolled in, the necessary prerequisites.
