Randy Johnston recently retired from Ernst & Young (EY) after completing a 37-year career in public accounting, including the last 25 years as a partner.

Johnston held numerous technical and leadership positions including Industry Leader in the Southwest area for the Banking and Real Estate group, Control and Audit Methodology leader for the Southwest area during the initial implementation of the PCAOB integrated auditing requirements and the Southwest area consultant on Independence matters.

Johnston also served as the lead auditor for numerous Financial Institutions and Real Estate companies, including Fortune 500 companies. He has significant experience in securitizations, mergers and acquisitions, purchase price allocations, asset valuations as well as derivatives and hedging.

Johnston spent two years as an accounting fellow in EY’s National Banking Group where he co-developed training on auditing the allowance for loan losses and taught this and other internal training sessions. As an accounting fellow, he assisted the professional practice group in responding to emerging accounting issues and drafting EY publications.

Johnston was an accounting fellow at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, providing accounting advice to this regulatory agency during the implementation of the Southwest Plan during the late 1980’s and speaking on accounting issues at professional conferences. He authored an accounting paper issued to the Washington office, that ultimately was the basis for an issue presented by the Federal Home Loan Board to the FASB Emerging Issue Task Force. EY Randy also had several speaking engagements as part of this role.

Throughout Johnston’s career he has instructed at numerous internal EY training sessions, including serving as an instructor at several EY new manager seminars after his retirement from EY.
